Games are our passion
Our goal is to help you have fun
The kind of fun where you tell tales of the game long after it’s over, and wait eagerly for the next one. Dark Smile Games produces games that let you tread the far reaches of your imagination, and return with wicked stories to tell.
Our Journey
Dark Smile Games started when Vexx and Mariah pitched the idea of a world where the wonder, horror and absurdity of fairy tales happens right now, in our own city, Toronto. The response we received was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. When we couldn’t find the world we wanted in any role-playing game, we set out to create our own. Thus, Fae Nightmares, and eventually Dark Smile Games were born.
It’s been a wondrous and surreal journey and it’s just getting started.
Fae Nightmares
The world we pitched years ago eventually became Fae Nightmares, an Urban Fantasy world that started off incredibly free-form, and was shaped and influenced by its first players. This helped create some incredible depth and complexity to the cultures contained in the setting. The Fae are not a rarely-interacted with entity, but rather there heart of the setting.
As the adopted “child” of an Urban Fae, you are in a transition between what you once were, human, and what you could become, Fae. There multiple distinct groups of Fae, and you have been taken into one of these groups, sent to wage war on their behalf. This is a world where long-forgotten legends are very real, and the “Good Neighbors” can be deadly adversaries. Here, a wrong word can be as dangerous as any inner-city gang fight, and using your wits for survival is a neccesity.

Truth: I like RPGs, comic books and table top war-games. Occasionally, I’m even moved to write about them. I’ve been storytelling and slinging dice for over a decade and even picked up a few things along the way. If you’ve landed on this page, maybe you like reading about RPGs, comics and late night philosophy. Awesome! Grab a sword and help me with this ogre, already.
In grade school I had a steady diet of White Dwarf magazines, DnD manuals and Fighting Fantasy Books. I learned early: the choices you make have consequences and sometimes the only thing standing between your character and death is quick thinking and a good dice roll.
Years later, I cut my teeth on Heroes Unlimited and transitioned over to Mutants & Masterminds, Vampire the Masquerade, Vampire the Requiem, Pathfinder, Legend of the Five Rings, Heroes Unlimited, Star Wars, Necropolis 2350 and ended up in Savage Worlds.
I read a lot and GM almost as much. I’m a big believer in reserving judgement until I’ve actually tried something at least once. My reviews and findings aren’t meant to be comprehensive: I figure you’ve already read about an RPG or comic somewhere else – or will – I’m just sharing my impression.
I’ll make no attempt to be current; it may take me months to get around to having something worth sharing. But, when I do, this will be one of the first places you can find it.

I hate writing Bios, its a big, huge, look at me! I’m so awesome! song and dance that noone pays attention to. But if I don’t write this, I’ll never start, so, here it is!
Hi, My name’s Mariah, I’ve been playing board and tabletop RP games for the last 8 years now, and have tried my hand at LARPing (sadly, I no longer Larp due to a knee injury & preference for boffer Larps.) I know, this makes me a noob compared to a lot of people out there, but I only just recently found games that were better than monopoly-with the same person every time to make it even worse. My RP gaming tends to go in mad rush spurts, my first campaign we clocked in about 120hrs in 2.5months, and that trend continues. I tend to play with a different group and setting each campaign. I’ve been reading fantasy and sci-fi for as long as I can remember-ever since someone got me hooked on “The Hobbit” and then stopped reading to me when I was seven.
